About Daewoo Damas
The Daewoo Damas is a compact cab-over microvan introduced in South Korea in 1991. Developed from the Suzuki Carry/Every family, it gave Daewoo a practical light-commercial model below its conventional passenger cars and larger vans. Its narrow body, upright shape and short length suit crowded streets and restricted parking spaces.
The range is generally divided into the original Damas and the updated Damas II, although its basic architecture changed little. Depending on market and year, it was offered as a windowed passenger model or a cargo van, with different seating layouts and trim levels. Most versions used a small 0.8-litre engine, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. Sliding side doors and a large rear opening improved access to the tall cabin.
In South Korea, the Damas became closely associated with small businesses, local deliveries and low-cost transport work. Korean production ended in 2021, but manufacturing had also begun in Uzbekistan in 1996, where the model later continued under Chevrolet branding. The Damas is known for simple mechanicals, manoeuvrability, useful interior space and economical operation rather than comfort or performance. Within Daewoo’s lineup, it served as a specialised urban workhorse rather than a family-focused MPV.
