About Chrysler Ypsilon
The Chrysler Ypsilon was a compact five-door hatchback sold in selected right-hand-drive markets from 2011 to 2015. It was a rebadged version of the 2011-generation Lancia Ypsilon, created during the integration of FIAT and Chrysler. Built in Tychy, Poland, it gave Chrysler an entry in the European supermini class, below the brand’s larger saloons and people carriers.
There was only one Chrysler-badged generation. It used FIAT small-car architecture related to the FIAT 500 and Panda. Concealed rear door handles gave it the appearance of a three-door car, while the five-door layout provided easier access to the rear seats. The cabin featured distinctive styling, a centrally positioned instrument panel and an emphasis on comfort and personalisation.
Depending on market and model year, versions included S, SE, Limited and S-Series trims. Engine choices comprised a 1.2-litre petrol, a turbocharged 0.9-litre TwinAir two-cylinder petrol and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel. Most had manual transmissions, while an automated gearbox was offered with some TwinAir models.
The Ypsilon occupied an unusual position in Chrysler’s range: a small, European-designed urban car carrying an American badge. It was positioned above basic city cars, combining compact dimensions and economical engines with comparatively upmarket trim. Its limited sales period has made it a relatively uncommon Chrysler model.
