About Chrysler Volaré
The Chrysler Volaré was a Mexico-market passenger car best known as Chrysler’s local version of the front-wheel-drive K-car. Introduced in the early 1980s, it continued a name previously used on the rear-wheel-drive Valiant Volaré. The change marked a shift from traditional six-cylinder engineering to a lighter, more economical four-cylinder platform.
The main Volaré K was closely related to the Plymouth Reliant sold elsewhere in North America. It was offered primarily as a two-door coupe and four-door sedan, with equipment and badging adapted for Mexico. Its straightforward mechanical layout, practical cabin and relatively compact exterior placed it among Chrysler de México’s accessible family cars rather than the brand’s more luxurious models.
Later versions included the Volaré E, a longer four-door sedan related to Chrysler’s extended K-car family. This variation provided more interior room while retaining front-wheel drive and four-cylinder power. Model availability, trim and branding varied by year as Chrysler reorganised its Mexican range.
The Volaré is notable for linking two distinct periods in Chrysler’s regional line-up: the rear-wheel-drive Valiant era and the front-wheel-drive cars that defined the company during the 1980s. It is remembered mainly as a practical, market-specific model with simple construction and extensive parts sharing across Chrysler’s contemporary range.
