About Chrysler Stratus
The Chrysler Stratus was a mid-size, front-wheel-drive model sold mainly in Europe and selected markets in South America and Asia from the mid-1990s. It was closely related to the Dodge Stratus offered in North America and formed part of Chrysler’s JA-platform “cloud car” family alongside the Chrysler Cirrus and Plymouth Breeze.
Introduced for 1995, the four-door saloon used Chrysler’s cab-forward design approach, with a long passenger compartment, short bonnet and flowing bodywork. It occupied the mainstream middle of the brand’s passenger-car range, offering more space and comfort than a compact model without the size of Chrysler’s larger executive saloons.
A two-door Stratus Convertible joined the range during the same model cycle. Related to the North American Chrysler Sebring Convertible, it provided four-seat open-top motoring and was offered in versions such as LE, LX and Limited, depending on year and market. Common powertrains included a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a manual gearbox and a 2.5-litre V6 paired with an automatic transmission.
The Stratus name covered one principal generation, with styling and equipment updates before production ended around 2000–2001. Its role was then taken over by the Chrysler Sebring. The model is chiefly known for its distinctive 1990s American styling, roomy cabin, comfort-oriented character and unusual position as an American mid-size saloon or convertible in export markets.
