About Chrysler Saratoga
The Chrysler Saratoga is a historic nameplate used for several distinct vehicles rather than one continuous model line. It first appeared in the United States for 1939 and was produced through 1942, returning after the Second World War from 1946 to 1952. These early Saratogas were full-size cars offered mainly as sedans and coupes, combining Chrysler’s spacious bodies with eight-cylinder power. Their position changed over time, ranging from an upper-level model to a more affordable alternative within the brand’s large-car range.
Chrysler revived the Saratoga for 1957–1960 in the United States, placing it between the Windsor and the more luxurious New Yorker. Available as a sedan and two- or four-door hardtop, this generation featured V8 engines and the dramatic tailfinned “Forward Look” styling associated with late-1950s Chrysler vehicles. The name remained in use in Canada through 1965, with market-specific specifications and positioning.
A very different Saratoga was sold in Europe from 1989 to 1995. This version was a front-wheel-drive four-door saloon based on the Dodge Spirit and adapted for European regulations. Across its various eras, the Saratoga is best known as a comfortable, conventionally engineered passenger car occupying the space below Chrysler’s flagship models.
