About Chrysler PT Cruiser
The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a compact, front-wheel-drive model best known for combining retro-inspired styling with practical, upright packaging. Launched for the 2001 model year and produced from 2000 to 2010, it occupied an unusual position in Chrysler’s range. It offered a compact alternative to larger sedans and minivans, while its tall body, raised seating and flexible load space gave it some characteristics of a small MPV or wagon.
The PT Cruiser remained within one main generation, with a significant update for the 2006 model year. Its principal body style was a five-door hatchback/wagon, while a two-door convertible was offered from 2005 to 2008. Depending on year and market, versions included Classic, Touring, Limited and performance-oriented GT models, plus numerous Dream Cruiser and Street Cruiser special editions.
Most North American models used 2.4-litre four-cylinder engines, with turbocharged variants providing additional performance. Other markets also received smaller petrol engines and a diesel option. Production centred on Chrysler’s Toluca plant in Mexico, with some vehicles assembled in Graz, Austria.
The model is particularly recognised for its 1930s-influenced appearance, spacious cabin relative to its exterior dimensions, and adaptable rear seating and cargo arrangements.
