About Chrysler Executive
The Chrysler Executive was a low-volume luxury sedan and limousine produced from 1983 to 1986. Based on Chrysler’s front-wheel-drive E-body architecture and closely related to the LeBaron, it used an extended wheelbase to provide substantially more rear-seat space. The model was created during Chrysler’s shift towards smaller, more efficient front-wheel-drive vehicles.
Offered in a single generation, the range included the five-passenger Executive Sedan for 1983 and 1984 and the seven-passenger Executive Limousine throughout the model’s production run. The longer limousine added a partition with a power-operated glass panel, rear-facing auxiliary seats and separate rear audio and ventilation controls. Conversion specialist ASC completed the stretched bodies near Chrysler’s St. Louis assembly operations.
Early examples used a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.6-litre four-cylinder engine with a three-speed automatic transmission. For 1986, the limousine received Chrysler’s turbocharged 2.2-litre engine. All versions were front-wheel drive.
The Executive occupied a specialised position near the top of Chrysler’s range, complementing rather than replacing conventional luxury models such as the New Yorker and Fifth Avenue. It is chiefly known for combining formal limousine equipment with comparatively compact K-car-derived engineering. Limited production and its unusual proportions make it one of Chrysler’s more distinctive 1980s models.
