About Chrysler Dynasty
The Chrysler Dynasty was a mid-size four-door sedan sold for the 1988–1993 model years. The Chrysler nameplate was used mainly in Canada and Mexico, while the closely related version in the United States was marketed as the Dodge Dynasty. Production took place in Belvidere, Illinois.
Offered in a single generation, the Dynasty used a transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and shared its C-body architecture and basic body structure with the Chrysler New Yorker. Within Chrysler’s regional line-up, it provided a more affordable and conventional alternative to the brand’s higher-grade sedans, combining traditional North American styling with the space-efficient mechanical layout common to Chrysler products of the period.
The range centred on base and better-equipped LE versions, although trim availability varied by market and model year. Engine choices included a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, a Mitsubishi-sourced 3.0-litre V6 and, in later models, Chrysler’s 3.3-litre V6. Automatic transmissions were used throughout the range.
The Dynasty is known for its formal, upright appearance, spacious cabin, bench-seat practicality, large boot and comfort-focused road manners. Rather than emphasising performance or advanced design, it served as a straightforward family and fleet sedan. Its production ended as Chrysler introduced a newer generation of more aerodynamic LH-platform cars.
