About Chrysler Daytona
The Chrysler Daytona was a front-wheel-drive, three-door hatchback coupe sold mainly in Canada and selected export markets. It was the Chrysler-badged counterpart of the Dodge Daytona offered in the United States and belonged to the same 1984–1993 model family. In Canada, Chrysler branding replaced the Dodge name after the 1986 model year.
Built on Chrysler’s G-body architecture, which was related to the company’s K-car platform, the Daytona combined sporty styling with a practical rear hatch and occasional rear seating. It occupied the affordable performance-car end of the range rather than Chrysler’s traditional luxury segment, competing with other compact sport coupes of its era.
The Daytona remained one basic generation but received several styling and mechanical revisions. Models from 1987 used pop-up headlamps, while the 1992 update introduced fixed, flush-mounted lights and revised exterior trim. Engine choices varied by year and market, including naturally aspirated four-cylinders, several turbocharged four-cylinders and a 3.0-litre V6. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered.
Versions included base and ES models, plus performance-focused Shelby, IROC and IROC R/T variants in certain years. The rare IROC R/T was distinguished by its high-output 2.2-litre Turbo III engine. The Daytona is known for its distinctive period styling, versatile hatchback body and broad range of performance levels.
