About Chrysler Cordoba

The Chrysler Cordoba was a rear-wheel-drive, two-door personal-luxury coupe sold for the 1975–1983 model years. It brought Chrysler into the market for smaller, more attainable luxury coupes when the brand was primarily associated with large cars. Although substantial by modern standards, it was promoted as Chrysler’s “small car.”

Two generations were produced. The 1975–1979 first generation used Chrysler’s intermediate B-body architecture and featured a long hood, formal roofline and comfort-focused cabin. The smaller second generation arrived for 1980 on the J-body platform and continued through 1983, reflecting the North American industry’s shift towards downsized vehicles.

The Cordoba is known for traditional luxury styling, vinyl roof treatments, opera windows and available leather upholstery. Its public image was strengthened by Ricardo Montalbán’s memorable advertising. Equipment and engines varied by year, with six-cylinder and V8 power offered during the model’s production.

Notable variations included the 1979 Chrysler 300, a Cordoba-based model with distinctive trim and a performance-oriented V8 specification, and the sportier-looking Cordoba LS from the second generation. Within Chrysler’s range, the Cordoba provided personal-luxury style below the brand’s larger cars and became one of its defining coupes of the late 1970s.
