About Chrysler Cirrus

Introduced for the 1995 model year, the Chrysler Cirrus was a front-wheel-drive, four-door midsize sedan that replaced the LeBaron sedan. It used Chrysler’s JA platform, shared with the Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze, and formed part of the group commonly known as the “Cloud Cars.” The original Cirrus remained in production through 2000 as a single generation.

The Cirrus brought Chrysler’s cab-forward design approach to the midsize class. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and forward-set cabin helped provide generous passenger space without the exterior size of Chrysler’s larger sedans. Within the group’s range, it was the more upmarket counterpart to the Stratus and Breeze, while sitting below models such as the Concorde and LHS.

North American versions were offered mainly in LX and better-equipped LXi form. Engine availability varied by year and included four-cylinder and 2.5-litre V6 choices. The model was recognised for its distinctive styling, roomy interior and strong standard-equipment levels, and it was named MotorTrend’s 1995 Car of the Year.

Although the name ended in the United States after 2000, Chrysler continued using Cirrus in Mexico for locally marketed versions of the Sebring sedan and convertible through 2010. Some Mexican-market cars also featured turbocharged four-cylinder engines, giving the Cirrus nameplate a broader range of variations than its original US sedan line.
