About Chevrolet Trans Sport
The Chevrolet Trans Sport is a large MPV developed for European markets and introduced in 1997. Although the Trans Sport name had previously appeared on Pontiac models, the Chevrolet-badged version represented a single generation. It was built in the United States on General Motors’ GMT200 platform, which also underpinned several related North American minivans and the Opel/Vauxhall Sintra. Production of this generation ended in 2005.
Within Chevrolet’s European range, the Trans Sport served as a spacious family and leisure vehicle. It initially complemented the Opel Sintra and occupied much of the same market position after that model was discontinued in 1999. Its size, styling and driving characteristics reflected its American origins, placing it among the larger people carriers available in Europe.
Most versions used a 3.4-litre V6 petrol engine with a four-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive was standard, while all-wheel-drive variants were offered in some markets later in the model’s life. The cabin typically provided seating for seven, with removable or adjustable rear seats, two sliding side doors and substantial luggage capacity. The Trans Sport is mainly known for its roomy, flexible interior, long-distance comfort and distinctive position as a US-built Chevrolet adapted for European regulations.
