About Chevrolet Trafic

The Chevrolet Trafic was a light commercial van sold in Brazil during the 1990s. It was Chevrolet’s version of the first-generation Renault Trafic, supplied through a partnership with Renault and built in Argentina. Chevrolet records list the model from 1993 to 1998, although examples reached the Brazilian market earlier in the decade. Near the end of its run, it was renamed SpaceVan.

Designed for professional transport, the Trafic filled a dedicated van role in Chevrolet’s regional range alongside the brand’s pickups and trucks. Its front-wheel-drive layout and box-shaped body provided a low, spacious cargo area. Depending on specification, it was available with petrol or diesel power and in different wheelbase lengths.

Major variations included enclosed cargo vans, passenger and minibus configurations, chassis-based versions and vehicles adapted for specialised duties such as ambulance service. Some passenger models could carry large groups, while cargo versions offered more than one tonne of payload capacity.

Chevrolet offered only the original Trafic generation; later generations of the Renault model were not sold under this badge. The Chevrolet Trafic is mainly known for its practical interior, broad range of conversions and unusual place in the brand’s Brazilian commercial-vehicle history.
