About Chevrolet Tornado
Chevrolet Tornado is a light-commercial nameplate best known in Mexico. It arrived for the 2004 model year as a small two-door pickup, replacing the Corsa B-based Chevy Pickup. The vehicle was produced in Brazil and sold there as the Chevrolet Montana, while the Tornado name distinguished the Mexican-market version.
The pickup covered two generations. The first was derived from the Corsa C passenger-car platform, while the second shared its basic architecture with the Chevrolet Agile. Both used front-wheel drive, unibody construction, a two-seat cabin and an open cargo bed. Their compact dimensions and car-based design placed the Tornado below conventional body-on-frame trucks, making it suitable for urban deliveries, trades and small businesses. Engines, trim levels and equipment varied by model year, but the range remained focused on simple operation and practical load capacity. Pickup sales in Mexico ended in 2020.
Chevrolet revived the name for the 2022 Tornado Van, changing it from a pickup into a compact panel van. This version occupies the entry-level end of Chevrolet’s commercial-vehicle range and is configured primarily for cargo rather than passengers. It is known for its small road footprint, enclosed load area, sliding side access, petrol engine and manual transmission. The Tornado name therefore spans two distinct formats, linked by an emphasis on affordable, space-efficient business transport.
