About Chevrolet Tavera
The Chevrolet Tavera is a body-on-frame multi-purpose vehicle developed from the second-generation Isuzu Panther. It was sold in Indonesia from 2001 to 2005, but is most closely associated with India, where General Motors introduced it in 2004 and produced it at Halol, Gujarat, until April 2017.
Rather than passing through several distinct generations, the Tavera retained one core design and received a series of equipment, styling and powertrain updates. Indian versions included the original Tavera, the better-equipped Elite and Neo derivatives, the refreshed Neo 2 and the Neo 3 launched in 2012. The Neo 3 added revised front styling and an available BS IV-compliant 2.0-litre common-rail diesel engine alongside the established 2.5-litre diesel in relevant markets.
The Tavera occupied Chevrolet’s practical people-carrier position, serving private families as well as taxi, fleet and institutional operators. Depending on specification, Indian models offered seven, nine or ten seats, with some versions using second-row captain’s chairs.
It became known for its spacious cabin, strong air conditioning, simple mechanical layout and suitability for carrying passengers over long distances. Its durable construction and utility-focused character took priority over modern styling or premium interior design. Production ended as General Motors withdrew Chevrolet from India’s domestic market in 2017.
