About Chevrolet Série 20
The Chevrolet Série 20 was a family of full-size, one-ton pickups developed for the South American market. Introduced in Brazil in 1985, it replaced Chevrolet’s long-running Série 10 as the brand’s principal heavy-duty pickup range. Production continued through the mid-1990s, with final vehicles built in Argentina for the 1997 model year.
Its main versions were identified by fuel type: A-20 for ethanol, C-20 for petrol and D-20 for diesel. The diesel model became the best-known variation, particularly among rural operators and commercial users. Buyers could choose single- or double-cab bodies, different wheelbases and cargo beds, basic or more comprehensively equipped trims, and, during part of the production run, four-wheel drive.
The Série 20 remained one main generation but received several styling, mechanical and equipment updates. Later diesel models offered improved Maxion engines, including turbocharged options, while the petrol version eventually gained electronic fuel injection. Its body-on-frame construction, strong chassis and approximately one-ton payload placed it above compact pickups and gave it a clear work-focused role within Chevrolet’s range.
The model is particularly known for durability, load-carrying ability, a spacious cabin and mechanical simplicity. It was also important in establishing four-door double-cab pickups as practical work and family vehicles in Brazil. The Série 20 was ultimately succeeded by the Chevrolet Silverado.
