About Chevrolet Onix
The Chevrolet Onix is a subcompact passenger car created primarily for Latin American markets. Introduced in Brazil in 2012, it became a central part of Chevrolet’s small-car range and developed a strong sales presence across South America. Brazil has remained important to its development and production, although manufacturing and sourcing vary by country.
Two main generations have been produced. The original Onix was principally a five-door hatchback, with the related sedan sold as the Prisma in Brazil. Its range included mainstream LS, LT and LTZ trims, the value-focused Joy and the crossover-inspired Activ. The second generation arrived in 2019 with a new platform, updated styling and broader safety, connectivity and powertrain technology. Its sedan counterpart adopted the Onix Plus name in Brazil, while some markets use the Onix name primarily for the sedan.
Depending on market and model year, versions may offer naturally aspirated or turbocharged three-cylinder engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and trims ranging from basic fleet-oriented models to Premier, RS, Redline or Activ variants. The Onix is known for practical dimensions, economical operation and accessible in-car technology. It occupies Chevrolet’s high-volume small-car segment, serving buyers who need everyday transport with a balance of cabin space, equipment and running costs.
