About Chevrolet Omega
The Chevrolet Omega was a large executive car sold by Chevrolet in Brazil from 1992 to 2012. Introduced as the successor to the Opala, it served as one of the brand’s flagship passenger cars, aimed at buyers seeking more space, comfort and performance than Chevrolet’s mainstream saloons. Its rear-wheel-drive layout, spacious cabin and long-distance refinement were central to its identity.
The first Brazilian-built Omega was based on the Opel Omega A and remained in local production until 1998. It was offered mainly as a four-door saloon, with the Suprema estate joining the range from 1993 to 1996. Key trim levels included GLS and CD, while engine choices evolved from 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre inline-six units to 2.2-litre four-cylinder and 4.1-litre inline-six alternatives. Manual and automatic transmissions were available, depending on version.
From 1999, the name continued on Australian-built models derived from successive Holden Commodore and Calais generations. These imported Omegas were saloons only and used V6 power, initially a 3.8-litre engine and later a 3.6-litre unit. The limited Omega Fittipaldi marked the final period before sales ended in 2012. Across its versions, the Omega is known for generous interior room, a comfortable ride, stable road manners and equipment that positioned it near the top of Chevrolet’s Brazilian range.
