About Chevrolet Menlo
The Chevrolet Menlo is a compact battery-electric car developed and built by SAIC-GM for China. Revealed in 2019 and launched in 2020, it was Chevrolet’s first fully electric model sold in the country. Its styling drew on the FNR-X concept, combining a low wagon-like profile with a five-door hatchback layout and crossover details.
The Menlo has one generation and was not developed as a global Chevrolet nameplate. It was positioned as a practical EV for urban and intercity travel, separate from the brand’s conventional sedans and SUVs. A five-seat cabin, flexible cargo space and streamlined body define its everyday focus.
Initial versions used a 52.5 kWh battery and 110 kW motor, with an advertised NEDC range of up to 410 km. For the 2022 model year, Chevrolet added a 61.1 kWh battery, a 130 kW motor and an advertised range of up to 518 km. Trim choices included Star-themed grades and limited cosmetic editions, but the basic front-wheel-drive, single-motor format remained unchanged.
Within Chevrolet’s Chinese lineup, the Menlo represented an early move into mainstream electric mobility. It is mainly known for its unusual crossover-wagon shape, market-specific development, straightforward electric drivetrain, connected cabin technology and emphasis on useful range and practicality rather than high performance.
