About Chevrolet Lanos
Chevrolet Lanos is a front-wheel-drive subcompact car best known as an affordable, straightforward sedan in Eastern Europe, Russia and Egypt. It originated as the Daewoo Lanos, introduced in 1997, and later appeared under the Chevrolet brand in selected markets after General Motors acquired key Daewoo assets. Within Chevrolet’s regional lineups, it served as a basic entry-level model alongside newer small cars such as the Aveo.
The Chevrolet version retained the compact four-door format, simple cabin and conventional petrol powertrain. A 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual gearbox was especially common, although engines, equipment and trim levels varied by market and year. Production relied heavily on regional manufacturing: ZAZ built the car in Ukraine, while GM Egypt assembled Chevrolet Lanos models from Ukrainian-supplied kits.
Rather than passing through several entirely new generations, the Lanos remained one core design with updates. The original T100 was followed by the restyled T150, which received revised front and rear styling. Chevrolet-badged models were generally based on this later version and sold mainly as sedans.
The Lanos is known for compact dimensions, a practical boot, uncomplicated controls and relatively simple servicing. Its long production life reflected its role as accessible personal, taxi and fleet transport rather than a technology-focused model.
