About Chevrolet D-Max
The Chevrolet D-Max is a body-on-frame pickup developed for commercial, agricultural and mixed work-and-family use. It entered Chevrolet’s South American range in the early 2000s as the LUV D-Max, following the long-running LUV. Early models were closely related to the Isuzu D-Max, a pickup jointly developed by Isuzu and General Motors.
The model became particularly important in Ecuador and was also offered in Colombia and other Andean markets. Ecuadorian assembly began in 2004 with the LUV D-Max; vehicles carrying the shorter D-Max name were locally assembled from 2013 until General Motors closed its Quito plant in September 2024. Newer vehicles are imported, and the 2026 Ecuador-market generation uses a pickup platform from SAIC Motors rather than the earlier Isuzu-based architecture.
Across its successive local generations, the D-Max has been sold in single-cab, double-cab and chassis-cab forms. Depending on year and market, the range has included petrol and diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and rear- or four-wheel drive. Work-oriented versions emphasise payload and durability, while higher trims add passenger-car comfort, connectivity and safety equipment.
Within Chevrolet’s regional lineup, the D-Max sits as a practical one-ton-class pickup below larger North American trucks. It is known for straightforward engineering, strong load-carrying ability, diesel availability and suitability for demanding roads and varied terrain.
