About Chevrolet Cruze
The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact passenger car developed as a global General Motors model. Introduced in 2008 and launched in North America for the 2011 model year, it replaced different compact cars across several regions, including the Chevrolet Cobalt in the United States and Canada. Within Chevrolet’s range, it generally sat above the smaller Aveo or Sonic and below the midsize Malibu.
Two principal generations were produced. The first appeared mainly as a four-door sedan, with five-door hatchback and station wagon versions offered in selected markets. The lighter, more modern second generation arrived from 2015, although launch dates varied by region. Sedan and hatchback forms were its main body styles. A Cruze Limited version briefly kept the earlier design on sale in North America during the transition.
Powertrain availability depended on market and model year. Options included naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines, plus diesel engines in some countries, with manual or automatic transmissions. Most versions used front-wheel drive.
The Cruze was positioned as a mainstream family compact and became an important global passenger car for Chevrolet. It is known for practical cabin and luggage space, efficient small engines, straightforward road manners and a broad choice of trim levels. Production took place in several countries and ended at different times by market, including 2019 in North America, as Chevrolet placed greater emphasis on crossovers and SUVs.
