About Chevrolet Corsica
The Chevrolet Corsica is a front-wheel-drive compact car produced for the 1987–1996 model years. Developed as a successor to the Chevrolet Citation, it used General Motors’ L-body platform and shared its basic engineering with the two-door Chevrolet Beretta. The Corsica was aimed at mainstream family, commuter and fleet use.
Sold throughout its life as a four-door sedan, the Corsica was also offered as a five-door hatchback from 1989 to 1991. It remained within a single generation, although styling, equipment, engines and transmissions were updated over time. Trim choices included value-focused versions and the sportier LTZ, while available power came from four-cylinder and V6 petrol engines. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered, depending on model year and specification.
Within Chevrolet’s range, the Corsica generally sat above the smaller Cavalier and below larger family cars such as the Celebrity. It emphasised interior space, straightforward controls and practical everyday transport rather than luxury or high performance. The uncommon hatchback added cargo versatility, while V6 models provided stronger performance than the standard four-cylinder cars.
The Corsica is best known as a conventional American compact of the late 1980s and 1990s, combining front-wheel-drive packaging with simple, functional design. Production ended after the 1996 model year, with the revived Chevrolet Malibu taking over its broad position in the brand’s passenger-car lineup.
