About Chevrolet Celta
The Chevrolet Celta is a small, entry-level hatchback developed by General Motors in Brazil for Latin American markets. Produced at the Gravataí plant from 2000 to 2015, it was designed to provide affordable personal transport with low running and maintenance costs. It used an architecture derived from the first-generation Chevrolet Corsa but featured distinct bodywork and a simplified specification.
Sold with three- and five-door bodies, the Celta occupied the value-focused end of Chevrolet’s passenger-car range. Most versions used compact four-cylinder engines, primarily 1.0-litre units, while 1.4-litre options were available in certain years and markets. Brazilian models also adopted flex-fuel technology, allowing operation on petrol, ethanol or a mixture of both. Equipment levels varied from basic models to better-equipped trims with features such as air conditioning and power assistance.
The Celta remained within one main generation, receiving substantial styling updates in 2006 and 2011 rather than complete redesigns. These revisions aligned its appearance more closely with newer Chevrolet models while retaining its established mechanical layout and compact dimensions. It became known for simple engineering, economical operation, urban manoeuvrability and widely available parts. The newer Onix eventually took over its role in Chevrolet’s Brazilian line-up.
