About Chevrolet Blazer
The Chevrolet Blazer name first appeared in 1969 on a short-wheelbase, full-size utility vehicle derived from Chevrolet’s pickup range. Early K5 Blazers became known for rugged construction, four-wheel-drive capability and a removable rear roof. The nameplate later expanded to the smaller S-10 Blazer, a compact SUV sold across two generations from the 1980s into the 2000s.
After a long absence, the Blazer returned for the 2019 model year as a five-seat, two-row midsize crossover. This version is road-focused rather than truck-based, with sporty styling, a driver-oriented cabin and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Gasoline models have included turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 engines, with LT-family trims providing mainstream equipment and RS versions adding a more performance-inspired appearance.
The modern Blazer is assembled in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. Within Chevrolet’s SUV range, it sits above the compact Equinox and below the larger, three-row Traverse, offering more space and presence than a compact crossover without moving into a family-sized three-row model.
Chevrolet also uses the name for the separate Blazer EV, an electric midsize crossover introduced for the 2024 model year. Offered in versions including LT, RS and performance-oriented SS, it shares styling themes with the petrol Blazer but uses a dedicated electric architecture. Across its distinct eras, the Blazer is best known for combining practical SUV packaging with a stronger emphasis on style and character.
