About Cadillac SLS

The Cadillac SLS was a long-wheelbase luxury sedan developed specifically for China. Introduced for the 2007 model year, it was based on the Cadillac STS but used a 100 mm longer wheelbase, providing more rear-seat space. It was assembled in Shanghai by Shanghai GM and remained in production until 2013.

Sold as a four-door, rear-wheel-drive executive car, the SLS occupied a high position in Cadillac’s Chinese range. Its extended body, spacious cabin and emphasis on rear-passenger comfort suited a market where large luxury sedans were often used with a chauffeur. The design retained Cadillac’s angular styling, while the interior received equipment and details tailored to local buyers.

The SLS had one main generation, divided into an original version offered from 2007 to 2009 and a facelifted model introduced for 2010. Early variants used 2.8- and 3.6-litre V6 engines or a 4.6-litre Northstar V8. Later versions included 3.0-litre V6 and 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains, depending on model year and specification. Automatic transmissions were standard.

Known for combining the STS platform with extra cabin length, the SLS represented Cadillac’s China-focused approach to the executive-sedan class. It was distinguished mainly by its long wheelbase, formal proportions, rear-seat accommodation and broad range of petrol engines.
