About Cadillac Seville
The Cadillac Seville was a four-door luxury sedan produced from 1975 to 2004, covering the 1976–2004 model years. It was introduced as a smaller, internationally oriented Cadillac when European luxury cars were gaining ground in the United States. Despite its more compact dimensions, the original Seville sat near the top of the brand’s range and focused on refinement, technology and formal styling.
Five generations were offered. The first used rear-wheel drive, while the 1980 redesign adopted front-wheel drive and distinctive bustle-back bodywork. The shorter, more conventional third generation arrived for 1986. A major 1992 redesign brought smoother, European-influenced styling, followed by the final generation for 1998.
Major versions included the comfort-oriented Seville Luxury Sedan, or SLS, and the sportier Seville Touring Sedan, known as the STS. Later cars are especially associated with Northstar V8 power, front-wheel drive, extensive electronic equipment and a balance of a quiet ride with more responsive handling than traditional Cadillac saloons. The Seville served as Cadillac’s premium, relatively compact sedan alongside larger models such as the DeVille. After the 2004 model year, the Seville name was retired and the STS became a separate model line.
