About Cadillac ELR

The Cadillac ELR is a compact, front-wheel-drive luxury coupe with four seats and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Derived from the Cadillac Converj concept shown in 2009, it brought electrified propulsion to the brand before battery-electric luxury cars became widely established. Its Voltec system combined plug-in charging and electric driving with a 1.4-litre gasoline engine for extended range.

Cadillac offered the ELR for the 2014 and 2016 model years, with no 2015 model. It remained a single-generation vehicle and was assembled at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck plant. Although it shared its basic powertrain architecture with the first-generation Chevrolet Volt, the ELR featured distinct coupe bodywork, a more luxurious cabin and Cadillac-specific chassis tuning.

The revised 2016 version received increased system output, updated steering and suspension settings, additional technology and minor styling changes. The ELR occupied a specialised position rather than serving as a mainstream Cadillac model. It was a low-volume, technology-focused alternative to the brand’s conventional luxury sedans and coupes, known mainly for its angular design, premium interior, quiet electric operation and unusual combination of coupe styling with extended-range plug-in capability.
