About Cadillac CTS

The Cadillac CTS was a midsize luxury car sold for the 2003–2019 model years. Introduced as a successor to the Catera, it became an important part of Cadillac’s shift toward sharper styling, rear-wheel-drive engineering and more performance-focused vehicles. It sat below the larger STS and later XTS, while serving as the brand’s main competitor to established European sport sedans.

Three generations were produced. The first-generation CTS was offered as a sedan and helped establish Cadillac’s angular “Art and Science” design language. The second generation expanded the range with sedan, coupe and Sport Wagon body styles. The third generation returned to a sedan-only format, grew in size and moved further upmarket. Rear-wheel drive was standard on most versions, with all-wheel drive available on selected models.

Powertrains varied by generation and included four-cylinder and V6 petrol engines, while some earlier versions offered a manual transmission. The high-performance CTS-V was the most notable variation, using powerful V8 engines and upgraded chassis, braking and cooling systems. Across its lifespan, the CTS was known for distinctive design, balanced handling and a broader range of body styles than many Cadillac models. It was replaced in the brand’s lineup by the CT5.
