About Cadillac BLS
The Cadillac BLS is a compact executive car developed mainly for European markets and introduced in 2006. It gave Cadillac a smaller, more locally focused model below the CTS, aimed at buyers considering premium saloons from established European brands. The BLS used General Motors’ Epsilon architecture and shared much of its engineering with the Saab 9-3.
Built at Saab’s Trollhättan plant in Sweden, the BLS remained in production until 2009. It had one generation and was offered first as a four-door saloon, followed in 2007 by the five-door BLS Wagon. The Wagon was Cadillac’s first estate car and added greater luggage capacity while retaining the saloon’s basic design and front-wheel-drive layout.
The engine range included turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol units, a 2.8-litre turbo V6 and 1.9-litre turbodiesels, with manual and automatic transmissions available. A Flexpower version capable of using E85 bioethanol was also introduced. The BLS is known for combining Cadillac’s angular styling and premium equipment with Saab-derived packaging, European chassis tuning and relatively compact dimensions. Its short production run and modest sales have made it one of the rarer modern Cadillac models.
