About Buick GL6
The Buick GL6 is a family-oriented MPV introduced in China in 2017. Produced locally by SAIC-GM, it was developed specifically for the Chinese market and positioned below the larger GL8. While the GL8 has traditionally served business and premium transport needs, the smaller GL6 focused more directly on private buyers seeking extra passenger space without the size of a full-size minivan.
The model remained within a single generation, receiving equipment and powertrain updates rather than a complete redesign. It initially launched as a six-seater with a 2+2+2 cabin layout. Five-seat versions followed in 2018, trading the third row for greater luggage capacity. This range allowed the GL6 to cover both multi-passenger and conventional family-car requirements.
Most versions used a turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. For the 2021 model year, Buick added a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and updated the cabin with paired digital displays and newer connectivity features. The GL6 is known for its flexible interior, relatively manageable exterior dimensions, independent rear suspension and comfort-focused setup. Within Buick’s Chinese lineup, it filled the space between ordinary passenger cars and the brand’s larger, more expensive MPVs.
