About Buick Encore
The Buick Encore is a five-door subcompact crossover developed within General Motors’ global small-SUV programme. Introduced for the 2013 model year in North America, it gave Buick a smaller and more affordable SUV below the Envision and Enclave. North American models were built in South Korea and were related to the Chevrolet Trax and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka.
The Encore combined a short, city-friendly footprint with an elevated seating position and seating for five. It was known for easy manoeuvrability, a relatively refined cabin and flexible cargo space. Most versions used a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, while front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive were offered depending on model year and specification.
Across its North American run, the range included standard, Convenience, Leather, Premium and Sport Touring versions, although names and equipment varied by year. A styling and technology update arrived during the first generation. A second-generation Encore was introduced for China in 2019, but North America retained the original generation through its final 2022 model year.
The Encore GX joined the range for 2020 as a separate, slightly larger model rather than a direct redesign. The two were sold alongside each other until the original Encore was discontinued, leaving the GX to continue Buick’s presence in the small-SUV class.
