About BMW X6 M
The BMW X6 M is the high-performance version of the X6, combining the proportions and raised driving position of a luxury SUV with a coupé-style roofline. BMW classifies it as a Sports Activity Coupé. Developed by BMW M, it sits at the top of the X6 range and is aimed at buyers seeking sports-car-level performance in a spacious five-door vehicle.
Introduced in 2009, the first-generation E71 X6 M was one of BMW M’s first all-wheel-drive models and established the formula of a twin-turbocharged V8, automatic transmission and M-specific chassis tuning. The second-generation F86 arrived in 2015 with more power, an eight-speed transmission and updated technology. The third-generation F96 followed in 2020, initially offered in standard and more powerful Competition versions. Following the 2023 update, the model has been sold globally only as the X6 M Competition.
The X6 M is produced alongside other BMW X models in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It is known for strong acceleration, high-speed stability, all-wheel-drive traction and handling systems designed to manage its size and weight. Its distinctive sloping body trades some rear headroom and cargo versatility for a more dramatic profile, while the cabin combines premium equipment with M-specific controls, displays and seating.
