About BMW X6
The BMW X6 is a large luxury crossover with a coupe-style roofline. Introduced in 2008, it established BMW’s “Sports Activity Coupe” concept by combining the raised driving position and all-weather ability of an SUV with more expressive styling and a stronger focus on road handling.
Closely related to the BMW X5, the X6 offers a more design-led and performance-oriented alternative. It is positioned above the smaller X4 and alongside the upper end of BMW’s X model range. Its sloping rear profile gives it a distinctive appearance, although it generally provides less rear headroom and cargo flexibility than a conventional SUV of similar size.
Three generations have been produced: the original E71, the second-generation F16 launched in 2014, and the third-generation G06 introduced in 2019. Production has been centred at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina, United States.
Depending on generation and market, the range has included six-cylinder and V8 petrol engines, diesel versions, a first-generation ActiveHybrid model, and performance-focused M variants. The X6 M sits at the top of the range, while M Performance versions balance everyday usability with increased power and sportier chassis tuning. The model is known for xDrive all-wheel drive, strong performance, premium interiors and handling that is relatively agile for its size.
