About BMW X4 M
The BMW X4 M is the high-performance version of BMW’s midsize coupé-style crossover. Launched in 2019, it brought a full BMW M model to the X4 range for the first time. BMW classifies it as a Sports Activity Coupé, combining an elevated driving position and all-wheel-drive traction with a sloping fastback roofline.
Developed by BMW M GmbH, the X4 M was produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina, United States. It appeared in one generation, identified by the F98 code and based on the second-generation X4. A major update in 2021 introduced revised exterior styling, updated cabin technology and increased torque for the Competition version.
The main variants were the X4 M and the more powerful X4 M Competition, with availability differing by market and model year. Both use a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive. M-specific chassis tuning, adaptive suspension, uprated brakes and additional body reinforcement distinguish it from regular X4 models.
Positioned at the top of the X4 range, the X4 M is known for strong acceleration, precise handling and distinctive styling while retaining four-door practicality. Its firm ride and reduced rear space compared with a conventional SUV reflect its performance-focused design.
