About BMW M4

The BMW M4 is a high-performance two-door model developed by BMW M and positioned as the most powerful derivative of the 4 Series. Introduced in 2014, it replaced the M3 Coupe after BMW reassigned its coupe and convertible models to the 4 Series name. The M4 therefore continues the role previously held by two-door versions of the M3, while the M3 name remains associated mainly with the related saloon.

The first generation comprised the F82 Coupe and F83 Convertible, produced from 2014 to 2020. Both used a turbocharged straight-six engine and combined strong road performance with track-focused chassis engineering. The range expanded beyond the standard car to include the Competition package and limited-production versions such as the GTS and CS.

The second generation arrived for the 2021 model year as the G82 Coupe, followed by the G83 Convertible. Depending on version and market, it has been offered with rear-wheel drive or M xDrive all-wheel drive, manual or automatic transmission, and standard or Competition specification. More specialised derivatives include the lightweight M4 CSL and the M4 CS.

Within BMW’s lineup, the M4 serves as a practical high-performance coupe or convertible rather than a dedicated sports car. It is known for its turbocharged straight-six engine, distinctive styling, configurable driving modes and balance between everyday usability and circuit capability.
