About BMW iX2
The BMW iX2 is a fully electric compact crossover with a coupé-style roofline. Introduced in 2023 and launched in global markets from March 2024, it is the battery-electric version of the second-generation BMW X2. It is also the first X2 generation offered with an electric powertrain.
Positioned within BMW’s premium compact range, the iX2 provides a more design-focused alternative to the more upright iX1. BMW classifies it as a Sports Activity Coupé, combining elevated seating and a practical rear hatch with a sloping profile and sportier styling. It sits below larger electric SUVs such as the iX in the brand’s line-up.
The initial iX2 xDrive30 uses two electric motors and all-wheel drive, while the later eDrive20 version has a single motor and front-wheel drive. Specifications, equipment and availability vary by market. Both versions use BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology and share their basic vehicle architecture with other compact BMW models.
Production began in late 2023 at BMW Group Plant Regensburg in Germany. The iX2 is assembled on the same line as combustion-engined X2 variants, while its high-voltage battery is also produced at the site. The model is known for its distinctive fastback shape, modern digital cabin, quiet operation and balance of compact dimensions, passenger space and everyday electric usability.
