About BMW i7
The BMW i7 is a battery-electric luxury saloon and the electric flagship of the BMW passenger-car range. Introduced in 2022 as part of the seventh-generation 7 Series, it was the first fully electric production version of BMW’s long-running flagship saloon. Rather than being a separate body style, the i7 shares its platform, dimensions and core design with other 7 Series models.
The i7 is built at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Germany. Electric, plug-in hybrid and combustion-engined 7 Series variants are assembled using the same flexible production system, while key electric-drive components are also produced at the site. The model remains in its first generation, with a substantial update entering production in 2026.
Versions vary by market and model year. The range has included the rear-wheel-drive eDrive50, the all-wheel-drive xDrive60 and the performance-focused M70 xDrive. Updated models use revised 50 xDrive and 60 xDrive designations in some regions. A specially protected i7 is also offered for security applications.
Positioned above BMW’s smaller electric saloons, the i7 competes in the top tier of the electric luxury market. It is known for its quiet power delivery, spacious rear compartment, advanced display and assistance technology, air-suspension comfort and extensive personalisation options.
