About BMW 8 Series

The BMW 8 Series is a luxury grand tourer positioned near the top of BMW’s passenger-car range. The original E31 debuted in 1989 and remained in production until 1999 as a two-door coupé. Known for its distinctive low profile, long-distance comfort and advanced technology, it was offered in major versions including the V8-powered 840Ci, V12 850i/850Ci and performance-focused 850CSi.

BMW revived the name in 2018 with the second-generation range. The G15 Coupé was followed by the G14 Convertible and G16 Gran Coupé, which added four doors and greater rear-seat practicality. Depending on market and model year, versions have included six-cylinder 840 models, V8-powered M850i variants and the high-performance BMW M8. Both rear-wheel drive and xDrive all-wheel drive configurations have been offered.

Within BMW’s lineup, the 8 Series sits above the 4 Series as a more exclusive sporting model and complements the 7 Series with lower, more dramatic body styles. It is recognised for refined high-speed touring, strong performance, sophisticated chassis systems and a premium cabin. The Coupé and Convertible emphasise traditional grand-touring character, while the Gran Coupé combines similar styling and performance with improved everyday usability.
