About Audi V8
The Audi V8 was a four-door luxury saloon sold from 1988 to 1994. It became Audi’s first large luxury model and served as the brand’s flagship before the introduction of the A8. Developed from the architecture of the contemporary Audi 100 and 200, it was extensively adapted for the upper-luxury segment.
The model remained within a single generation. Early versions used a 3.6-litre petrol V8, while a 4.2-litre engine joined the range in 1991. Permanent quattro all-wheel drive was a defining feature across the line-up. Most examples had a four-speed automatic transmission, although comparatively rare manual versions were also produced. A long-wheelbase V8 L provided additional rear-seat space for chauffeur and executive use.
Positioned above the Audi 200, the V8 helped establish Audi as a competitor in the luxury-car class and laid important groundwork for the later A8. It is particularly known for combining understated styling with eight-cylinder performance, all-weather traction and a high level of equipment. Competition versions also strengthened its profile by winning the German Touring Car Championship in 1990 and 1991.
