About Audi RS 2 Avant
The Audi RS 2 Avant is a high-performance estate produced from 1994 to 1995. Developed jointly by Audi and Porsche, it was based on the B4-generation Audi 80 Avant and evolved from the S2 Avant. As Audi’s first RS model, it established the formula of combining sports-car performance, quattro all-wheel drive and everyday estate practicality.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.2-litre, 20-valve inline five-cylinder petrol engine producing 232 kW (315 PS) and 410 Nm. A six-speed manual transmission and permanent all-wheel drive were standard. Porsche contributed to development and assembly in Zuffenhausen, while also supplying or adapting components including the brakes, wheels and exterior details.
The RS 2 Avant was offered only as a five-door estate and represents a single generation rather than a long-running model family. About 2,900 examples were built during its short production run. Variations mainly concerned colour, trim, equipment and market specification, rather than separate engines or body styles.
Positioned above Audi’s S2 models, the RS 2 was the performance flagship of the B4-based range. Its discreet shape, strong acceleration, usable luggage space and distinctive five-cylinder character helped define the fast premium estate category and secured its place as a significant modern Audi classic.
