About Audi A2
The Audi A2 is a compact five-door hatchback with a tall, space-efficient body. Introduced in 2000 and produced in Neckarsulm, Germany, until 2005, it positioned Audi in the premium end of the small-car market. Only one production generation was offered, with 176,377 vehicles built.
Its defining feature is the lightweight Audi Space Frame aluminium structure, unusual in this vehicle class. Combined with an aerodynamic shape and compact exterior dimensions, the design provided a relatively roomy passenger compartment and practical everyday usability. All versions used front-wheel drive.
The range comprised two petrol and three diesel variants. Key models included the 1.4 petrol, 1.4 TDI diesels with 75 or 90 PS, and the 110 PS 1.6 FSI petrol. The specialised 1.2 TDI used additional weight-saving and aerodynamic measures to achieve exceptionally low fuel consumption. Audi also offered the brightly coloured colour.storm edition from 2003.
The A2 did not meet Audi’s original sales expectations, but its aluminium construction, efficient packaging and low running consumption later helped it gain a loyal following as a distinctive modern classic. Audi has announced that the A2 name will return on a compact electric model family, the A2 e-tron, scheduled for unveiling in autumn 2026.
