About Aston Martin Virage
The Aston Martin Virage is a luxury grand tourer associated with two distinct periods in the marque’s history. The original car debuted in 1988 and entered production in 1989 as Aston Martin’s first completely new model in nearly 20 years. It introduced more contemporary styling while retaining the traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and a developed 5.3-litre V8.
Designed primarily for fast, comfortable long-distance travel, the Virage was a four-seat coupé positioned at the top of Aston Martin’s range. A convertible Virage Volante followed, while the more powerful Vantage became its performance-focused derivative. Later developments adopted the V8 Coupé and V8 Volante names, with the wider model family remaining in production until 2000. The cars are known for low-volume construction, substantial road presence and a blend of luxury, performance and traditional craftsmanship.
Aston Martin revived the Virage name in 2011 for a V12 grand tourer offered as a coupé and Volante. Based on the company’s bonded-aluminium architecture, it occupied a narrow position between the comfort-oriented DB9 and the more aggressive DBS. This version combined refined touring ability with stronger performance and more assertive styling than the DB9, but its close relationship to neighbouring models contributed to a short production run ending in 2012.
