About Aston Martin Rapide
The Aston Martin Rapide is a four-door, four-seat grand tourer that combines the brand’s sports-car character with greater passenger access and everyday usability. Developed from a concept shown in 2006, the production model arrived in 2010 as the first series-production four-door car to carry the Aston Martin name.
Low, flowing bodywork and four “swan wing” doors give the Rapide the appearance of an extended sports coupé rather than a conventional luxury saloon. Its cabin has four individual seats, while a rear hatch and folding backrests add useful luggage flexibility. Space in the rear is more restricted than in many full-size saloons, reflecting the model’s emphasis on styling and driving dynamics.
The original Rapide used a naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12, rear-wheel drive and a rear-mounted automatic transaxle. It was succeeded by the Rapide S in 2013, which brought more power, revised styling and, on later cars, an eight-speed transmission. The limited-production Rapide AMR followed as the most focused variation, with chassis, braking, aerodynamic and engine upgrades.
Within Aston Martin’s range, the Rapide occupied a specialised position between a high-performance coupé and a luxury saloon. It is chiefly known for its distinctive proportions, V12 character, hand-finished interior and unusual blend of four-door practicality with traditional grand-touring qualities.
