About Aston Martin DBS
Aston Martin first used the DBS name in 1967 for a fastback four-seat grand tourer designed by William Towns. Production of this original generation ended in 1972.
The name returned in 2007 for a high-performance V12 model developed from the DB9. Positioned as Aston Martin’s flagship, it combined long-distance grand touring ability with sharper handling, carbon-fibre body panels and carbon-ceramic brakes. The range included the fixed-roof DBS and, from 2009, the open-top DBS Volante. Both left production in 2012.
A third generation arrived in 2018 as the DBS Superleggera, replacing the Vanquish S at the top of Aston Martin’s regular production range. Offered as a coupe and Volante, it used a twin-turbocharged V12 and emphasised strong performance, distinctive styling and a luxurious cabin. The limited DBS 770 Ultimate concluded this generation in 2023, with 300 coupes and 199 Volantes planned. Across its different eras, the DBS has consistently represented the more powerful and exclusive side of Aston Martin’s grand touring line-up.
