About Aston Martin Cygnet
The Aston Martin Cygnet is an ultra-compact city car produced at the company’s Gaydon headquarters from 2011 to 2013. Conceived as a luxury urban commuter, it was an unusual addition to a range otherwise focused on high-performance sports cars and grand tourers.
Based on the Toyota iQ, the Cygnet retained its space-efficient, sub-three-metre format and usable rear seats. Aston Martin gave it a distinct exterior and a more luxurious cabin. Details included the marque’s signature grille, bonnet meshes, side strakes, leather trim and extensive choices of colours and materials. Compact dimensions and easy manoeuvrability suited its city-focused role.
Production models used a 1.33-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission. The Cygnet was not positioned as an entry-level sports car, but as a highly personalised premium city vehicle, particularly for existing Aston Martin customers seeking a smaller additional car.
Variations mainly involved transmission, trim and bespoke specifications. In 2018, Aston Martin also created a one-off V8 Cygnet through its Q commission service, fitting a 4.7-litre V8 and rear-wheel drive. It was not a regular production version, but added to the Cygnet’s reputation as one of the brand’s most unconventional models.
