About Alfa Romeo 75
The Alfa Romeo 75 is a four-door sports saloon introduced in 1985 to mark the company’s 75th anniversary. Produced until 1992, it replaced the Giulietta and occupied the compact executive class. It was the final member of the long-running Alfetta-based family and the brand’s last mass-produced model to use its traditional rear-wheel-drive transaxle layout.
Its longitudinal front engine was paired with a rear-mounted gearbox and clutch, while a De Dion rear axle supported balanced weight distribution and responsive handling. These features, together with its angular bodywork and driver-focused character, distinguish the 75 from the front-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo 155 that followed it.
The range varied by market and included four-cylinder petrol engines, turbocharged diesels, the 2.0 Twin Spark, the 1.8 Turbo and 2.5- or 3.0-litre V6 versions. The limited-production Turbo Evoluzione was created for Group A racing homologation, while North American cars were sold as the Milano with V6 power. Around 387,000 examples were produced, making the 75 an important volume model as well as one of the clearest expressions of Alfa Romeo’s classic sports-saloon formula.
