About Alfa Romeo 4C
The Alfa Romeo 4C is a compact two-seat sports car developed as a lightweight, driver-focused model. Unveiled in production form in 2013, it marked Alfa Romeo’s return to the mid-engined sports-car segment and helped lead the brand’s re-entry into North America. Production continued until 2020 at the Maserati plant in Modena, Italy.
The range comprised the fixed-roof 4C Coupé and the open-top 4C Spider, which joined it in 2015. Both used a carbon-fibre monocoque with aluminium subframes, a transversely mounted 1.75-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive. Limited editions included the Launch Edition, Competizione, Spider Italia and the final North American 33 Stradale Tributo.
Positioned as a specialist halo car rather than a high-volume model, the 4C sat apart from Alfa Romeo’s conventional saloons and SUVs. It is best known for its low weight, compact dimensions, unassisted steering and minimalist approach to comfort and equipment. Its styling and mid-engine proportions drew inspiration from the 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, while the 4C name continued the brand’s historic cylinder-based naming tradition associated with the 6C and 8C.
