About Alfa Romeo 2300
The Alfa Romeo 2300 was a large four-door executive sedan produced in Brazil from 1974 to 1986. Developed for the Brazilian market as the successor to the FNM 2150, it used styling influenced by the contemporary Alfetta but had a larger body suited to local luxury-car expectations. Production began under Fábrica Nacional de Motores and later moved to Fiat’s Betim operation.
Mechanically, the 2300 followed Alfa Romeo tradition with rear-wheel drive, a longitudinal 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, twin overhead camshafts and a five-speed manual gearbox. Four-wheel disc brakes were especially advanced for a Brazilian-built car of its period. Its character combined spacious sedan accommodation with firm suspension, direct steering and greater driver involvement than many luxury rivals.
The range began with the standard 2300 and expanded to the revised 2300 B and more performance-oriented Ti. The later Ti 4 became the best-known flagship, adding further equipment and detail changes. A small export batch was marketed in parts of Europe as the Alfa Romeo Rio.
Positioned among Brazil’s most expensive domestic cars, the 2300 competed with large Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet sedans while offering a distinctly European alternative. It is remembered for its technical sophistication, long-distance ability, roomy cabin and unusual blend of luxury and sporting character.
