About Alfa Romeo 159
The Alfa Romeo 159 is a mid-size family and executive car produced from 2005 to 2011. It replaced the 156 and occupied Alfa Romeo’s core European D-segment position, offering a more substantial and premium-focused interpretation of the brand’s traditional sports saloon.
The range began with a four-door saloon, followed by the five-door Sportwagon estate in 2006. Both shared the same wheelbase and similar exterior dimensions, with the Sportwagon adding greater load-carrying versatility without departing significantly from the saloon’s profile. The design was created by Giorgetto Giugiaro in collaboration with Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and is especially recognised for its prominent shield grille, triple front lamps and broad stance.
Most versions used front-wheel drive, while selected 3.2 JTS petrol and 2.4 JTDM diesel models were available with the Q4 permanent all-wheel-drive system. Engine choices varied by market and included JTS petrol units, JTDM common-rail diesels and the later turbocharged 1750 TBi. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered, alongside trim variations such as the sport-oriented ti.
The 159 was positioned as a distinctive alternative to mainstream and compact executive rivals. It is known for its strong body structure, composed handling, driver-focused cabin and characteristic Italian styling. Compared with the lighter 156, it placed greater emphasis on refinement, comfort, safety and high-speed stability.
